The mesh insert has became a standard in the hernia surgery, and it is quite effective, cause it reduces a lot the risk of recurring of the hernia. It is attached to the wall, and strengthens the spot, thus giving a sense of security to the person carrying it.
This seems like an OLD question! I was under the impression that mesh inserts were the only way to repair hernias effectively and permanently. Back in the 1990's, my father's hernia was repaired with a mesh insert, and from then on it was never an issue!
