I have always heard that you can get a false negative reading but never a false positive. I don't know if that helps or not.

Assuming you follow the directions, home pregnancy tests are very accurate. This is also providing you have waited long enough from when you suspect you conceived for the hormones to be detected. It can take a few weeks for your body to produce enough of the hormones that the tests pick up.

Follow the instructions on the brand of test you opt to use. Some can determine pregnancy five days before a missed period. If used right some are 99% accurate.

They are very accurate, but it is not 100% guaranteed. There are negative results, that if you wait a couple of weeks and take the test again at an earlier time of day will then show a positive result. This is because of higher hormone levels the longer you wait.
