TV Guardian works by a patented process to detect offensive content. It mutes audio, modifies close captioning, and checks captioned words against a "dictionary" for offensive content. In short, it ineffectively attempts to do what live parents should be doing.

TV Guardian is a program that censors obscenities and is sold by Family Safe Media. It works by using a hidden closed cation signal and if an objectionable word is detected, the program will respond by replacing that word with a more acceptable one. The TV guardian has a library of obscenities pre-programmed into it.

It blocks out the crude words that you set it to on your TV. I use it for my family because It catches anything that I don't before my kids hear even if we just flipping through channels. It doesn't replace the parent but aids you in doing your job.
