It consists of a vast process of matting of the hair. It takes like forever and can hurt just a bit. It is almost like teasing hair.

You start out by having your hair platted and then as the new growth comes in you twist it. You keep it locked together by using some type of dread wax. If your hair is already really textured you can use dread cream.

Someone gets dreadlocks from sectioning their hair off all over their head and twisting the pieces. Then, they simply just leave them and let them grow. The hair doesn't get very clean at all when it is in dreadlocks, but this style appeals to many people.
