Soap does a couple of things for your grass. In most places, soap has phosphate in it which is a good fertilizer. It also helps to fight off insects. Bugs don't like the presence of soap on their food (that's your lawn), so applying soap makes it less palatable to them.

Twenty mule team borax soap will help your grass by killing chinch bugs as well as other pest. It will make your grass green and happy, it helps keep bugs that eat the grass away. It also has a chemical in it that makes the grass absorb more water keeping it greener.

I don't believe that there is anything in soap that could help your grass. You should avoid putting unnatural things in your grass. Too much soap can actually kill your grass but a little bit shouldn't hurt it.

most soaps are unorganic and contain harmful chemicals that will only do damage to your lawn. i wouldnt recommend using anything other than specified lawn food
