How does loss of pigmentation begin in a person?

Is it a generic disease? Or can you do something to help it?

This usually occurs in a condition called Vitiligo of unknown cause although there may be genetic and autoimmune factors involved. The skin's pigment producing cells called melanocytes decrease in number usually in localized areas anywhere on the body. There is no known cure.Cosmetics,UV light therapy and steroid creams might help diminish severity.

I think loss of pigmentation is due largely in fact on the part of genetics and not so much a disease why. There are both cases studied onthat matter to support both.
