Electrolysis means splitting using electricity. H2O electrolyis means passing of electric current through water and splitting H20, i. e. , water into Hydrogen and Oxygen ions. This requires two conducting rods to be immersed in water and connected to a source of electric current. The current when passed, Hydrogen ions get collected at Cathode and oxygen ions at the Anode.
