It is applied to plants through the roots or on the leaves, and is absorbed through them to start killing the plant from the inside out, so rain will not wash it off like other chemicals would be. They annihilate and/or restrict the growth of plants. It's not poison to people or animals.

It is actually absorbed into the roots of the plant. It travels to the inside of the plant and actually makes the plant inhospitable to insects from the inside out.

Systemics are absorbed either through the roots or the leaves of the plants. Most commonly they inhibit specific enzymes within the plants, which eventually kills them. They do not work quickly but they are the best chemical way to kill unwanted perennials, since they also kill the roots. Some are nonspecific, so you have to be careful where you spray.

Systemic means throughout the whole organisms body. A systemic herbicide is one which when applied on one plant part circulates in the whole plant and the effects are on the whole plant and not localized.

How a systemmic Herbicide works is when the herbicide is used on the plants to get rid of the bad thing like the other plants that are surrounding the other plants.
