The carousel is run by a motor, which is run from a fuse. If you mean how does it work to cook, it rotates so that you do not have to turn food around to get even cooking on all sides. Microwaves cook from the outside of food to the inside.

It simply turns in circles, allowing the food to cook more evenly as it is turned so that the microwave waves hit it more evenly.

Microwaves cook from the inside out, a carousel works by rotating the food to make sure that all the food inside your microwave is evenly cooked and not burnt on one side, and raw on the other.
