Magnets have a pull and push to them. Magnets stick to the side that has their opposite attraction. Fridges normally have metal in them that have the opposite attraction to a magnet. Thus you can stick the magnet on the fridge.

A simple magnet is some type of metal that is magnetized or made to have a magnetic field that attracts other things with a negative polarity magnetic field. That way the metal of the magnetic constantly sticks to the fridge.

The magnet is usually a magnetised steel. When it is magnetised it has a magnetic field, and depending of the magnet it can be big or small field.
