There are a few keys to being taken seriously when you write a letter of complaint. First, address your letter as high up the chain of command as you can. Don't just write "Dear Sir," find the owner's name and write him directly. Use a respectful, yet serious tone and always make sure to spell check.

You must never be rude and blame the receiver. The letter consists of first your address, then receiver's adrress, salutation, introduction, reasons you are writing, signature and your name.

I usually start out by taking some time to compose my thoughts. You want to sound serious, and convey your disappointment. You need to fully explain the situation, including names and times if possible. Don't just write and say you are angry-write why you are angry. How were you treated? Will this affect your opinion of the company or person?

Be sure to come across as polite and professional. Otherwise you will just be considered as a grumpy customer. Be detailed as well.
