How do you type superscripts in Microsoft Word?

Type the text normally. Select the characters you want to have as superscript. Go to the Format-menu, select character. On the tab with font information like style, size and so on there are the settings title "effects" you will find the superscript option there.

You can type superscripts by going to the Font area of the menu and selecting superscript from the display options.
