if it is a 96 or better you can go to a Advanced Auto and they can put it on this computer and tell you what is wrong, but most of the time it is a o2 censor
If your check engine light is on then you should check the codes. Either use a hand-held scanner or have a parts store/shop read them. This should provide a list of codes indicating where the problem is.
