There are a couple treatment options. Full body treatment with 5% permethrin cream or 1% lindane lotion is one. Ivermectin could also be prescribed. Regardless of the choice, all bedding and clothing must be washed and treatment of all people in the area is recommended to avoid re-infestation.

Treatments for scabies include bathing with soap containing more than 6% sulphur for four consecutive days and application of permethrin 5% topical cream before going to bed. Malathion applied for 24 hours is affective in killing adults and eggs. Other medications include lindane lotion, 10% sulphur ointment and neem oil.

There are creams that are applied to the entire body. The cream remains on the skin for a while then it's showered off. Another treament occurs about a week later.
