How do you treat a magnolia plant?

I got one as a gift.

You should plant your magnolia in the ground as soon as you can. It's really a tree and will need room for its root system to grow. Make sure the hole is at least twice the size of the root ball and the top of the root ball is soil level. Water and fertilize regularly the first year or so.

Plant your tree in full or partial sun. They like well drained soil very organic soil. You may need to add compost or peat to your ground when planting. Make sure you put it in a sheltered area - magnolias are forest dwellers by nature, so you want to recreate that environment for them.
