The most typical setup would be to use a Firewire connection, provided the camcorder supports it. Then you need a Firewire cable and the right plug on your computer. The latter can be installed via internal cards. On the computers side you additionally need a software to handle the incoming video. Windows and Macs come along with preinstalled software.

A cable usually comes with your camcorder and should plug into computer port. When a screen comes up, it will ask you if you want to save or open. You can either click Save To, then save to where you want the video to be saved, or you can click Open and then save it to where you want.
