Start with making every situation play/training. Always make your dog sit before he is fed, keep the food out of reach till he sits and then instantly reward him. Teaching a dog to sit is almost always the first step to real training, but be CONSISTENT!!

The best way is to use classical conditioning skills of psychology. Reward good behavior, and lightly punish bad behavior. I suggest watching the Dog Whisperer on Discovery :)

Boxer pups are like any other pup, they like to play and eat. Combine the training with both fun and treats and it will be alot easier. For example, if you're teaching the pup to use the doggie door, toss a toy through the door and give a treat when the dog goes through.

You will need puppy training pads that you put in the floor and they are super absorbent. Place them in a quiet out of the way place so that the puppy may use them in private and away from distractions. Once he learns where they are and he smells the scent he will continue to go back to that spot.

Your boxer is a lot smarter than you think. Training takes a lot of patience, praise and treats. Enroll him in a puppy class for the basics and socialization. Repetition and consistency are key to training any puppy. Dogs are reward motivated so treats are quite helpful.
