How do you teach yourself to do gymnastics?

I think I would be good at gymnastics and I would like to teach myself.

You need to be very careful. Gymnastics can be a very dangerous sport. If you insist on teaching yourself, start with easy moves like cartwheels. Get a friend to help spot you (and call for help if you get hurt). Make sure you stretch very thoroughly before you start anything.

Instructions can be found on YouTube and EHow. They'll help you start but if you want to excel, find a gym to train at and learn from a professional.

You can get books out of the library that describe how to do gymnastic moves. But of course the best way to learn proper technique is to have a teacher.

First you need to figure out if you are coridinated? Try to walk heel, toe, feet in front of each other down a straight line.

You need to go outside and stretch out your legs, arms, shoulders, back, and neck. Then work on simple things like cartwheels and hand-stands. Work on back-bends and flexibility. When you think you have mastered that, go on to back walk-overs and back hand-springs.

Gymnastics is not an easy sport. First i think you need to have a dance background in order to be comfortable. You will have to trust youself in every step of the way. Always have someone with you when you are praticing never be alone. Be safe and have fun!

While doing gymnastics, you should rehearse on a soft surface so that you don't hurt yourself when you fall. Take training from a gymnastics coach about how to stretch the different parts of your body. Before starting the stretching exercises, you should do some warm-up exercises to prepare yourself.
