I would start by removing the asphalt and resealing the original roof underneath. After that I would go about shingling the roof like any other. I would recommend professional help for this project as its going to be messy and require a lot of work. I would use standard shingles after the original is removed.

The roof must be kept dry and preferable work must take in a good climate. The shingles will then need to be put into place. Immediately after on the clean and dry surface tar paper must be applied to protect roof and shingles from bad weather. I would recomend using 15-30 lb shingles

To shingle a a hip roof just run your shingles past then score and break them off along the hip. Do the other side and top with hip-ridge shingles.
