Vasnishing a wood table isnt that hard. Fisrt you sand with 100 grit sandpaper until its dull, then use a fine grit sandpaper like 300. Wipe the surface clean until theres no dust left. The last step is to varnish it with a brush until fully covered.

Begin by sanding any paint and old varnish off the table. Stir your varnish thoroughly to make sure it is completely mixed. Dip your paint brush so only the tip is coated and apply the varnish to the table in long and even strokes going with the grain of the wood.

First it would be essential to remove any pre existing stain for varnish with remover. You can do this by following the directions on the can. Select the type and color of varnish. Varnish dry wood and work with the grain. Make sure your workplace it properly ventilated.

First you should remove the old varnish, either with a chemical remover, or by sanding. After stripping and sanding, apply a coat of new varnish.

Typically you sand it down, treat the wood, apply the varnish, remove excess in 20 minutes, allow to cure, and then put the clear coat or laquer on it.

You are going to need to sand down the table before you put new stain on it. You can use an electric sander or you can use sand paper. Get the table so it's smooth and all the old stain is sanded off. Apply your stain in a well ventilated area such as a garage or outdoors.
