First, jack up the car and place jack stands so it won't fall on you. Next, you would disconnect the battery. Then, take the starter wires off, unbolt the starter, and then drop the starter down. Last, you would install the new starter, put the bolts back in place, wires back on the starter, and connect the battery.

First step would be to locate the starter that needs to be replaced. You will need a few simple tools to remove it, like a wrench or socket. Take out the bolts that holds the starter into place and remove it. Put the new starter in and tighten the bolts.

Put the car on ramps so it will be easier on you. Then get under the car just about under the front seats but on the outside of the car .Locate the starter it should be around the transmission.Once you done this take the two bolts out that hold it in place

First, locate the starter. Then disconnect the starter. Pull the old starter out. Put the new starter in place, and reconnect everything exactly as it was. For a detailed diagram of where the starter is on a 1997 Maxima and good descriptions on how to unhook and connect everything, you can get a special repair book for your vehicle.
