You can get the carpet removed with a tool from Home Depot or Lowes. Ask someone working there what tools you will need to pull up your existing carpet. You can also buy the vinyl supplies there as well. Those can be installed easily since they have a sticky backing.

You will first need to remove the carpet, tackstrip, staples from the desired installation area. Then depending on what the sub floor is you may need to install a quarter inch multi-ply subfloor. Tack this down with 1 inch leg by 1/4 inch crown staples, patch seams, snap a line, spread glue, lay field tile and make cuts.
