Question by  jansi (91)

How do you repair an auto body with fiberglass and Bondo?

Someone told me I can do it myself, but I don't know where to start.

Sand the entire surface around the problem area to bare metal, then apply bondo to the surface. Once the bondo dries in a few hours, sand it until you are happy with a smooth surface and apply more bondo if needed. Clean dust with paint prep then prime and paint.

If you are interested in learning more then you should buy a bodywork manual. Fiberglass is used to create patches over a large area that has access to the back. Bond is used to fill in slight imperfections and small dents. It should never be thicker than a 1/8". Several thin coats are typically applied to create a smooth surface.

Start by buying a good body repair manual. It should tell you everything you need to know about body repair like surface prep and Bondo application.
