How do you remove the air cleaner assembly in a Malibu?

Typically it is pretty straight forward. Remove any lid on the air box and then remove the filter. Disconnect the box from the intake tube. Then look for bolts or clip on the sides on bottom of the box. Remove these and the air box should come out.

There will be a large black plastic box with a rubber tube leading to the intake manifold. The box will have 3 or 4 metal spring clips. Carefully flip up each metal clip, and remove the air filter.

first you need to remove the air filter from the housing by opening the five clips that are around the perimeter of the filter housing. When they are unsnapped lift the filter out. Then locate the 3 bolts through the bottom of the housing. Remove them and disconnect the intake tube and it should come out.

See that big black plastic tube? It runs to the engine at one end. The other end to a big black plastic box. Inside that box is the air filter. All you need is to flick those clips around the box. Then lift sideways. And, simply remove air filter.
