Depending on which modulator you are speaking of,the one that is internal to the automatic transmission will require a trained technician to replace this part. If it is the speed modulator it usually will be clipped into the speedometer cable at the transmission.

Most Mercedes require a special tool for the job. You may be able to do it with a monkey wrench, lightly turning as you pull outward. Mind the banjo knob.

The modulator valve in a older mercedes is internal and shouldnt be serviced by anyone who has to ask how to remove it. I would take the vehicle to a qualified transmission specialist due to the fact that a rebuilt transmission is quite expensive for a mercedes. spend a bit now and save a lot later.
