Open all doors and windows to let fresh air circulate. Assuming that the animal cannot be removed, keep candles lit to counter the smell and let time take its course. If the animal was removed, the smell will go away but you can still use a deodorizing spray and put vapor rub under your nose to counteract the smell.

To remove the odor, you must first remove the source (the animal). Then, depending on what surface the animal was on, you can use bleach (hard surface), oxy-clean (carpeting), etc.

The first thing I would do is remove the animal from your house. After that I would clean where the animal died with disinfectant of some sort. Maybe you might even want to invest in an air fresher. I can't promise you the smell will go away right away, but these things will make it go away faster.

One can use powerful deoderizers sold at pet stores, as well as other household items such as baking soda, vinegar, and lemons.
