How do you refinish furniture?

I have a nice chair that needs it desperately.

You would first probably want to remove or strip the original layer of finish from the furniture before attempting to refinish it. Then simply choose a finish you like and refinish the chair.

Depends on the type, any wooden furniture would just take a sanding, staining, and sealing. Cushion and cloth are a different more complex story.

First take off the old stain or paint with a stair remover. Sand until you get all the old stair or paint off. Use liquid stain and apply. Let dry, sand again until smooth, tack cloth dust off, restain and when dry clear coat.

Sand the part of the chair down to get any former seals or finish off. Buy the color finish you would like (I suggest going to Lowes or Home Depot), then apply the color as it is directed on the can. Let it sit and withing a day your chair should be fine.
