Diet and a healthy weight are extremely important. Drinking plenty of water is essential. Avoid foods and beverages high in purine, such as alcohol and certain meats and fish. Many fruits and vegetables low in purine are helpful in reducing uric acid. Some of these are bananas, cherries, blueberries, cabbage and tomatoes. Certain prescription medications may be necessary.

To relieve gout eliminate alcohol from your daily intake. Also dairy products are often culprits in high uric acid levels. Drink plenty of water as well.

Yogurt, low fat milk and cheese help. Avoid alcohol consumption, especially beer and wine. Eat vegetables and fruits not high in purine and drink plenty of water.
