To reattach grip take recoil housing off engine. Pull rope out and tread rope through grip. Tie a knot in the rope to attach grip and let rope retrack. If replacing rope and grip turn recoil and attach rope. Release recoil and rope should wind back on recoil. Replace recoil housing on mower.

Remove the metal piece that is wedged in the top of the handle. Then feed your rope through that and tie a small knot. Then wedge the metal piece that you removed back into the handle and it. This will hold the knot and the string into the handle of the grip.

You will actually have to take the engine housing unit apart to get at the pull start mechanism to re-attach the rope. It's not to complicated, just start taking your engine apart and you should see it once the plastic top is off.
