30 milligrams of Vitamin C a day will prevent scurvy. This is as easy as eating such foods as oranges, strawberries, tomatoes and broccoli. Scurvy is not common in the United States, because the average U. S. citizen ingests 72 milligrams a day, but it can be found elsewhere outside of the modern world.

Scurvy is rarely an issue these days. It affected people more in the pioneer days. Scurvy was prevented by eating citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, and oranges.
