Question by  John70 (16)

How do you play the saxaphone?

I'd like to teach myself, if that's possible.

First off; get a decent saxaphone, and a couple of books on the subject. If you get a cheap one you won't be doing yourself any favours. I recommend a Yamaha Standard, and beginning with an Alto Saxaphone, as you need to build up your lung capacity if you want to go on to a tenor, baritone or bass saxaphone.

Wet reed for good vibration, use enough air to make the reed vibrate, start easy and always practice practice practice

The saxophone is an instrument which is not very hard to learn. A teacher however is highly advisable. The way of blowing the mouthpiece is quite difficult.

In essence, you blow into the mouthpiece (not too hard) and you press down the various pads and make the different notes. There are fingering charts online that can help.
