Generally speaking, you should measure around the narrowest part of your waist. This is typically about four or five inches above your belly button. However, some clothing manufacturers may specify a different place to measure - always go with their suggestion.

It's a little different for men and women, but your waist is generally considered the narrowest part of your torso, which is under where the ribs end for most people.
