The best way is with a product that is made just for swags and tails. It is made of a foam like material and allow you to simply wrap the material around the pattern and no sewing is required.

Swags and tails for curtains can actually be made out of bed sheets to various types of fabrics found in a fabric store. First, measure the length and width needed. Next, take a curtain rod and drape the material over to the other side for a swag. Omit the complete draping for a tail. No sewing will be needed!
