Take any type of quilt or blanket and begin randomly sewing buttons to the top using either fishing line or strong twine until you have the desired effect.
Create a quilt in any pattern (9-patches and Broken Dishes are two that work well), then instead of quilting, hold the layers together by sewing buttons in a pleasing pattern.
