You will need a potato, a bulb and bulb holder, a penny, a galvanized nail and lead electrical wires with alligator clips. Insert the penny and nail into the potato. Attach the electrical wires from the nail and penny to each terminal on the bulb holder. Watch the bulb.

You don't have to do anything special to the potatoes. Insert a galvanized nail into each of two potatoes and connect copper wire to the nail using alligator clips. There will be 1V across the wires that can power a small bulb or be be measured with a voltmeter.
