When you open a formula to edit, excel will automagically create the correct links to any excel sheet you click into, even in a differn't file. Avoid linking between books.

If you want to link to a data sheet that has similar values and want to only updated on, you enter this formula. =[Bookname. xls]Sheet1! $c$15. Replacing the name of the book, sheet number, and cell information with what you need.

You can use Vlookup function to link the sheets. From spreadsheet1 call the spreadsheet dynamically using vlookup function. It should match the criteria.

You will first have to open up both of the different programs. Next you will have to click, hold, and drag the files.
