How do you know how much freon to put in a Jaguar XJ6.

It's a 1991.

The service manual indicates tha the system should be charged to 3.4 pounds. the quantity you need to add is really dependant on how much if any remains. Watch the pressure as you add R-12 (freon). R-12 is getting hard to find and expensive so you may want to consider going with a r-134a retrofit kit.

The owners manual that came with the car itself should have the listed amounts of fluids that go into the car or you could even check the sticker underneath the hood. If neither is possible your local auto parts store should be able to look it up for you.
