Chemical sprays are available which work very well. Once you have sprayed the foliage, you have removed the plants source of food. After you see that the foliage is dead, it will then continue down to the roots, killing those as well. This may take a few days, and/or a secondary application.

Find out specifically what kind of vines you have and then check on the label of herbicide to find the right one. Some vines are tough to kill.

Oh, this is a PAIN!!! You can try topical solutions, that is the easy, quick fix, but you also don't want chemicals polluting your yard and killing other plants. You need to get right down and dig it out, get the whole root, feelers and runners.

There are several options available, dig the vines up getting as much root as possible then sprinkle salt in the area or pour cooking oil to stop further growth. Also after digging up the vines cover with a thick layer of mulch and quickly weed out any seedlings that appear.
