if the new timer is to take the place of the existing system then you either need to identify that system and separate out the area you want to have controlled by your new timer or just remove the control wiring to the existing lighting contractor and replace it with your control wiring.

If you are looking for a quick and easy fix, there are small timers that you can buy that simply plug into an outlet. You'd plug the timer in, and then plug the lamp into the timer. Set the timer for when you'd like the lights to go on and then off. Test it one time, and it should work!
