Being a single parent during a holiday season doesn't have to be tough. Staying focused on what makes your child comfortable and happy is the key to success. Giving your family love and attention is the best way to handle any holiday.

Celebrating holidays is basically about traditions. The thing that you have to do, even as a single parent is to establish your own traditions within your family, and make sure that the kids are involved in the decisions. This way, they will appreciate the choices and also have something to look forward to each year.

Surround yourself with extended family members such as aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, siblings, etc. Consider celebrating with good friends, church family or co-workers. Finally, offer to help at a homeless shelter, old folks home or orphanage. By giving to others, you will find joy in your own situation.

Do you have other family and friends to spend the holidays with? Make your extended family and friends a part of your celebration along with your children. Try to enjoy yourself and keep busy. Plan a lot of activities to occupy your time.

One of the best ways to handle the holidays is to try and convert all of your negative feelings into good ones. A great way to do this is to try and make the holidays as fun and entertaining for your children as possible in order to make them happy.
