The y or f(x) value graphed vertically, so put the point as high as the y value. The x value is the horizontal value and can be found by substituting the y value into the problem. Then graph by using consecutive values of y (ex: 1, 2, 3...)

First, make a table of inputs and outputs. For x, pick a range of values--it helps to have equally many on either side of zero. Add in the function or y values in another column. Take the x and y values as ordered pairs, plot the points, then connect them.
