Connect coaxial cable from 'TV OUT' on DirectTV box to 'TV IN' on VCR box. Connect coaxial cable from 'TV OUT' on VCR box to 'TV IN' on television. Make sure that both DirectTV box and VCR are set to same channel (3 or 4) and begin recording.

Hook the RCA outs from the direct tv box, to the line in on your VCR. Power both of them on. Set your tv to view your VCR, and set your VCR to what ever line you pluged your Direct TV box into. Now change the channel on your Direct tv box to what you want to record.

To tape a program from a Direct TV box to your VCR, you need to hook up the video and audio out from the Direct TV box to the input on the VCR and set it up to tape.
