How do you go about removing sutures?

Can you do it own your own without seeing a doctor?

You could do it yourself but it wouldn't be smart. When a doctor takes out sutures he has a chance to look and see that the wound is healing correctly and there is no sign of infection.

Sutures are removed by grasping the knot and cutting the stitch at its base on one side of the knot. The knot is then gently pulled so that the stitch comes out of the skin. It requires a pair of fine tweezers and scissors. If you do this yourself, make sure not to leave any of the stitch behind

It is not advisable to remove sutures yourself. A Registered Nurse could perform this procedure as it is necessary to check that the wound has fully healed and there is no infection present or other complications. Also after care may be needed.

You need pick forceps and suture scissors or a tiny knife to remove them. A nurse, NP, or PA, can remove them, but don't do it yourself.
