This is going to sound cliche, but the answer is to be yourself. So many times we pretend we're something we're not because we're uncomfortable. But people can see through that right away, and we come across as arrogant or fake. When you see a girl you are interested in, just walk up to her and say hi.

The first and primary component to picking up chicks is confidence. From there, it's advisable that you both look and smell good. Then comes the actual approach. Have something funny or engaging to say. Avoid crudeness or typical pick-up lines. Smile and be approachable.
