Remove the belt, pulley, then all the bolts holding it on. Pry the old pump off, scrape off the old gasket, and then apply new gasket and pump. Reassemble.

Start by removing all of the components that are in the way of removing the pump. Then you pull the pump off and replace it with a new or rebuilt unit. Be sure to put the gasket on correctly and use gasket sealer to make sure it seals well. Then the rest of the installation is the opposite of removal.

Disconnect the battery. Tale off the serpentine belt. Next remove the bolts for the water pump and detach any hoses connected. Drain fluids and catch securely. If fluid is in good condition, you can use it after pump is replaced. Then unbolt the water pump. Install is the reverse.

The water pump is located in the front of the engine at the top. Remove the radiator lines and bolts. Remove water pump and replace with new one.

On a lot of GM cars you remove the Accessory belt, maybe the cooling fan. If This is an older v8 there will be 4 bolts holding it in.

Consult a mechanic or online forum to receive detailed advice on changing your water pump. You will need to know the year and make of your Oldsmobile.

The water pump is located on the front of the engine in most Oldsmobiles. If you are going to replace the water pump go ahead and replace the thermostat as well. You also will need to remove the belts on the engine in order to have access to the thermostat and water pump housing.
