A earache due to a cold and blocked eustachian canal will resolve with some tylenol/aspirin and antihistamines. If there is a ear infection with pus or effusion, then you will need to take a course of antibiotics like amoxycillin. A blocked external ear canal will get better with some ear drops and some cleaning - but avoid earbuds!

Home remedies may do more than Doctors. Put a clove of garlic in your ear to remove the toxins. If you have water in your ear or air (this causes earaches) you could put 2-5 drops of white vinegar in your ear. This takes the pain away.

Long lasting earaches most likely will be treated with antibiotics under doctor supervision. Untreated ear infection can be dengerous. It can lead to hearing loss.

it would be very important to find the source of the earache. If it has to do with your sinuses, the environment, or contact with something else. The easiest first step after you are sure you don't have a cold of some sort is to buy eardrops for soreness, and possibly eardrops for earwax.
