You should begin by using the Internet and/or a phone book to research schools and programs in your area that offer educational programs from which you can earn a GED. They're often called adult schools. Look for a program that is free or available at a minimal cost, and that fits into your schedule.

Check with your local community colleges. Most of them offer GED instruction. Also, many community centers, libraries and churches have GED courses as well. These places will usually offer the GED test itself after a certain period of time.

There are 5 tests that must be passed to get a GED. You can contact an Adult Learning Center in your area to get specific information. In most areas there are free classes to fit your schedule that will offer practice and help in areas that you struggle.

Contact your local GED Testing Center and request an informational packet. You can study on your own, or take classes to prepare for the exam you must take.
