DVD-Rs can be formatted; when they are unwritten, you can start writing to it without formatting before. After you have wirtten to the DVD-R you cannot change the content (and not delete it); this would only be possible if you use DVD-RW disk which allows to change the content multiple times.

Unfortunate you can not "Re-Write" or erase a DVD-R. Companies commonly put a RW logo on the disk. This does not mean you can re write it. If you can erase it, in Windows; go to "My Compute", right click the disk icon and select "erase" - select full erase.

Insert a blank dvd into your computer cd rom drive, go pass the autoplay, then press x, proceed to open windows explorer, click start after windows explorer has opened, click computer tab, on the left side of the screen, then right click the dvd/r drive choose format d-drive, after all steps are completed the process will automatically begin to format.
