Jack up the car and get underneath the car and drain the oil. After oil is drained pull off all the bolts that hold the pan on. Once off be sure the old gasket is fully removed. Put on the new and replaced all the bolts and fill with oil.

First, check and make sure that the oil filter and pan are on tight. If they are tight then you will need to replace the cap gasket.

The gasket may need replacing. While you're at it, check the oil pan for bumps and dents AND engine block base for warps. If the pan is bent, it can be put back straight easily, but a warped block can mean very bad news, at very least a clogged cooling water conduit and needs urgent attention by a specialised mechanic.

Clean outer rim of pan once removed. Place new gasket on pan ,no overhang on outside rim. Bolt back onto car. Tighten drain screw back and refill with oil.

The right way is to drop the oil pan. Then clean the mating surface and install a new oil pan gasket.
