How do you find the area of an octagon?

First. divide the octagon into 8 triangles. Second, find the area of one of each side. Third, multiply by 8.

If it is a regular octagon you can use the formula 2x(1+√2)x(edge length)^2. If it is not regular , the easiest way is to think the octagon as a square where the corners are cut. First find the area of the square then substitute the area of the cut corners.
